After a stop in Cusco (to recover from the 21h bus from Lima!), we travelled to Aguas Calientes, or Machu Picchu pueblo, to see one of the most famous place in South America: the Machu Picchu! We enjoyed the panoramic train journey from Ollantaytambo to the touristic village located 5km from the site. We spent the night there, woke up at 7am and went straight to the Machu Picchu. Not early enough to see the sunrise but the weather was too cloudy to enjoy it anyway. All the buildings, stairs, temples and observatories are well preserved, thanks to the fact that the Spanish didn't find the place when they arrived in the 1500's! We walked back to the village (quite steep hike) and stretched as visiting Machu Picchu requires a lot of walking/climbing!
